Last year, Capital One® conducted a survey asking workers what exactly is it that they truly want to see in their workplace. The survey involved encouraging 3,500 full-time office workers to share their thoughts about workplace design and their experience as employees when it comes to satisfaction, creativity and productivity at work.
Support for Mental Health and Well-being
According to the Capital One’s 2019 Workplace Environment Survey, one of the things that office workers want from their workplace is access to resources that can help support their mental health and well-being. The results also showed that almost all employees who participated in the survey agreed that companies should provide spaces and programs that support the mental health of all their workers.
Dynamic Workplace Design
Apart from resources to support an employee’s mental health, office workers also advocate for their office spaces to have a more adaptable and dynamic design. This means that some feel that they should have some control over a few workplace features to better support their work needs, such as flexible furniture arrangements and spaces for collaboration.
Some also want access to more natural light or materials like indoor plants and wooden textures in their offices as they crave a connection with nature in the workplace.
Flexibility
Finally, workers also want flexibility and adaptability in their workplace. However, this goes beyond flexibility in terms of physical space. According to Capital One’s survey, it’s the priority of employees to find companies that offer flexible schedules alongside physical flexibility in the workplace.
